A Symbol of the Gangas: Elephant was the symbol of the ‘Gangas’. Western Gangas with capital Talkad which is modern Karnataka (Mysore). 
Earlier Ganga was a feudatory of a strong Empire Rashtrakutas but with the decline of Rashtrakutas, Ganga Dynasty declared themselves an independent Kingdom and King Konganivarman Madhava is considered as the founder of it. Despite a small empire they had a strong hold in Deccan region.
